Carried On | 2017 | performance | 01:00:00
Carried On is a durational performance that uses melting ice and the negotiation of bearing weight as tools for communicating the trauma and healing cycles of living with sexual violence. Vocalization of process, via the voice, and the shift from ice to liquid, suggest the possibilities of transformation within these narratives. In this three-part performance, Fernanda D’Agostino, Elisa Nyassom and I each hold sacks of ice in different positions while voicing a stream of consciousness monologue that expresses our immediate thoughts and experiences as the weight of the melting ice shifts. This piece articulates some of the complexities of healing and voicing truths.
