On view at Gallery 114 in Portland OR from January 4-28, 2024, Imprint: Objects in Performance was a multimedia exhibition that looked at the connection between actions and objects through the performance practices of Portland-based artists Linda Austin, Noah Beckham, maximiliano and Fernanda D’Agostino. Bringing together drawing, sculpture, photography and other performance ephemera, all four artists intentionally make use of objects to both shape and record their actions. Meditating on the body as a bridge between these two forms, this exhibition considered these questions: How do objects choreograph the artist’s body in performance? How does material echo the actions of performance? In what ways do performance-based artists use and resist objects as carriers of their work? Highlighting the reciprocal relationship between action and object, Imprint reflected on the inextricable impressions and influences that the tangible and intangible share.
This exhibition included a projection room with a 40 minute loop of performance films from the artists, an artist panel discussion and a closing performance by maximiliano.
